Disney confirms Contemporary Resort room refurbishment

Last month, leading up to Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary and based on permits filed with the state, the Disney’s Contemporary Resort was expected to undergo a room renovation. Now, Disney has confirmed that work will commence this spring.

“Starting in April 2021, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which opened up with the resort in 1971, will begin a refurbishment to reimagine Guest rooms,” read a statement by Disney. “While some Main Tower rooms will be unavailable during the refurbishment, most resort areas and amenities will still be available for Guests to enjoy.”

At this time, it is unknown how the rooms will be decorated or the extent of the renovations. In the fall of 2019, a rumor was spreading among Disney bloggers that the Contemporary Resort would receive an Incredibles-themed overlay, based on testing of a small portion of a hallway on the eighth floor of the resort. Testing included “The Incredibles” artwork, new guest doors, new carpet and wall coverings. The two rooms were located at the end of the hallway overlooking Chef Mickey’s restaurant.

Currently Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is undergoing a major renovation in advance of the park’s anniversary in October. The resort, which also opened in 1971, is seeing extensive work done to the monorail station, Grand Ceremonial House, and guest rooms. Disney is incorporating elements from its hit 2016 animated feature, “Moana,” throughout the resort.
