Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel opens in 2022 at Walt Disney World Resort

Today, on what is unofficially Star Wars Day, Disney announced more details about the upcoming Star Wars-themed hotel – Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser – adjacent to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

The completely immersive hotel, which is currently under construction, is expected to open in 2022 to guests. The first thing Disney shared with guests was the much-talked-about ‘real’ lightsaber that Josh D’Amaro unveiled a few weeks ago.

Disney says that the lightsaber that Rey is holding is a “new type of lightsaber” created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. Guests aboard the Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see the lightsaber in action. It is unclear if, when or how guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will experience it.

The arrival at the porte cochere may seem like any other hotel entrance, but that is where the similarities end. Guests will be ushered into a launch pod where they will “blast off” into space and head towards the Halycon starship. When the doors open, guests will find themselves in the atrium of the ship and their two-day, two-night adventure begins.

In order to completely immerse guests into the experience, the hotel will have no physical windows either in the public spaces or in the guests’ rooms or cabins. Instead, large video screens will continuously project scenes from outer space.

Guests will watch through viewports as they approach the massive and magnificent Halcyon starcruiser, which will be their home for the next two nights. For a limited time, Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests can now see a model of the ship on display inside Walt Disney Presents.

When the Launch Pod’s airlock slides open, guests will take their first step into a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser comes to life all around them. During their stay aboard this glamorous ship, guests may interact with an eclectic group of characters both familiar and new, possibly including the starcruiser’s strong and charismatic captain, a plucky ship’s mechanic, and a galactic superstar who can captivate an entire room with the crook of one jewel-encrusted purple Twi’lek finger.

Disney also announced details on the hotel’s dining room, the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. This purple Twi’lek singing sensation will be a featured performer during one of the dining experiences inside the supper club. According to Disney, “the enticing supper club’s name is an homage to Corellia, the planet known galaxy-wide for its shipyards that gave us not only the Halcyon starcruiser, but also the Millennium Falcon. The dining room is a bright and welcoming hall that will offer breakfast and lunch to passengers before transitioning each evening into a lavish multi-course menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins.”

Throughout the guest’s stay, they will have the opportunity to train in the ancient ways of the lightsaber, learn more about the inner workings of the Halcyon starcruiser and even jump on a transport to the planet Batuu to further your adventure inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. “This isn’t storytelling – it’s storyliving, where you’ll see, feel and live Star Wars in a whole new way.”

Back in January, Jeff Vahle, President, Walt Disney World, posted photos of what visitors should expect from their guest rooms.

As work progresses, Disney will be sharing more details about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. For more details and to receive updates visit starwarsgalacticstarcruiser.com.
