Disney changes ‘Ohana’s menu – once again – closer to original

Two months ago, Disney announced ‘Ohana’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was returning this July after being closed for more than 18 months. In the announcement, Disney released some new food offerings at this fan-favorite restaurant as well as the elimination of others including the stir-fried noodles and skewered shrimp. Needless to say, these changes were not well received by ‘Ohana die-hards.

Fans were so upset about the elimination of the noodles they took to social media to voice their displeasure. Two days after Walt Disney World announced the removal of the ‘Ohana Noodles from the all-you-care-to-eat dinner service, the noodles were put back on the menu. The other new dishes remained.

When the restaurant reopened last month, ‘Ohana fans were not happy with any of the new changes, in particular the shrimp casserole that replaced the shrimp skewers. Diners described the dish as “watery” and “flavorless.” The general consensus of this new dish was summed up in this one review: “I was met with a bowl of overcooked shrimp swimming in flavorless soup … It was more [like] bland soup on a plate … These poor innocent shrimp sacrificed their lives for this nonsense. As we looked around to [at the] other tables, we could see this dish was going mostly uneaten.”

In addition to the elimination of the shrimp casserole in favor of the peel-and-eat shrimp, the ‘Ohana Bread replaces ‘Ohana Coconut-Papaya Scones and Cheddar-Bacon Biscuits, grilled chicken replaces eight-way chicken, and the Kielbasa sausage has been completely removed from the menu.

Dinner pricing: Children: $33.00 + tax & gratiuity/Adults: $55.00 + tax & gratiuity.
