Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover extends closure through February

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (TTA), which has been down since March 2020, was expected to reopen the week of January 9, however that date came and went and the Tomorrowland attraction remains closed to guests.

When the attraction went down in the beginning of March, prior to the park closing due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, it failed to reopen with the Magic Kingdom this past July it was reported the TTA was undergoing an extensive refurbishment of its linear induction motors, as well as structural possible roofing work. Initially it was to reopen on October 31.

Last week bloggers noticed the PeopleMover vehicles were moving along the track as workers began testing the ride system. However, it quickly became apparent that something was not right as vehicles began crashing into each other. Mike at BlogMickey.com reported on the issue – “we couldn’t help but hear a slamming noise coming from Tomorrowland this morning.” Upon arriving at the attraction, BlogMickey.com said, “as it turns out … the slamming sound we heard was the ride vehicles hitting each other along the track … the impact of the vehicles was rather significant.”

It appears the issue was not resolved as Disney has now updated their refurbishment calendar. As of now, the attraction will remain closed through February 28.
