Disney moves refurbishment of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover to 9 January 2021

UPDATE (as of 26 October 2020) – Walt Disney World has updated their refurbishment calendar and is now expecting the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover to reopen 9 January 2021 – at the earliest.

Last week it was revealed that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (TTA) refurbishment opening was pushed back from mid-November to after Christmas. When the attraction went down in the beginning of March and failed to reopen with the Magic Kingdom this past July it was reported the TTA was undergoing an extensive refurbishment of its linear induction motors, as well as structural possible roofing work. Initially it was to reopen on October 31.

Now, Disney’s refurbishment calendar is showing the attraction is not expected to come back online until 2 January 2021.

Since the beginning of this year, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover has had its share of issues. In January smoke was pouring down the speedramp – the moving ramp that transports guests to and from the PeopleMover. The following month one train hit another train causing the temporary shutdown of the attraction.

Then in the beginning of March, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover went down due to an unknown issue. When Walt Disney World shut down in the middle of March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the TTA had yet to return to service.
