Tokyo Disneyland: character meet-and-greets resume, imminent opening of New Fantasyland

Tokyo Disneyland has been slowly reintroducing previously paused activities since reopening from the coronavirus. The park resumed performances of two of their parades and shows – their nighttime fireworks show and nighttime parade – “Disney Light the Night” at Tokyo DisneySea and “Nightfall Glow” at Tokyo Disneyland respectively resumed performances on September 1st. The parks will also be decorated for fall and Halloween, as well as unique food and beverage offerings for the holiday season.

Character meet-and-greets will also resume this month. Starting on Saturday, September 19, guests will now be able to resume meeting their favorite characters up-close-and-personal and not just from a distance. Character greeting experiences will be available at Mickey’s House and Meet Mickey and Woodchuck Greeting Trail at Tokyo Disneyland and at ¡Saludos Amigos! Greeting Dock and Mickey & Friends’ Greeting Trails at Tokyo DisneySea. This system will start at Minnie’s Style Studio on 28 September 2020.

Also on September 19, Tokyo Disneyland will utilize an Entry Request system similar to the virtual queue the Rise of the Resistance attraction uses at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. According to Tokyo Disneyland, “Entry Request is an opportunity to apply for access to select facilities. Guests are able to make a request at any time throughout the day, and will be notified immediately whether the request is accepted.”

Only guests who have completed an Entry Request on the Tokyo Disney Resort® App and received a return time will be admitted to the select attractions and Disney Character greeting experiences. Each party of guests can attempt an Entry Request once per day for each experience requiring it. If guests do not have the Tokyo Disney Resort® App downloaded on a smartphone, guests should see a Cast Member at the attraction or greeting experience regarding admission and assistance. Oriental Land Co., Ltd. has announced that their version of “New Fantasyland,” which features new attractions, restaurants, and shops, will open on September 28, marking the largest expansion of Tokyo Disneyland® Park ever.

This new area at Tokyo Disneyland, which covers nearly 12 acres across three of its seven themed lands – Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Toontown. After breaking ground in 2017, the park will see new additions to Fantasyland – the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction, shops and dining locations.

Tokyo Disney describes the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction as follows: “Aboard enchanted cups that move and turn as if they are alive, guests travel through various scenes to experience the world of the film. There’s the banquet where they ‘dance’” together with the dishes and cutlery to Lumiere’s singing; the snow-covered garden where they glide over the ice as Belle and the Beast find themselves growing closer. The castle is filled with magical moments and surprises, so guests will discover something new each time they visit. Will Belle and the Beast find love and thus break the spell before the last petal of the enchanted rose falls? Guests can look forward to the magical romance of The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.”
