The Walt Disney Company to pause all donations to Florida politicians

Today, Disney CEO Bob Chapek sent an email to all Disney Cast Members apologizing for the way he and the company handled addressing Florida’s “don’t say gay” bill.

In his email, Chapek said, “It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights. You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry.”

He also addressed an issue that started this whole public relations nightmare for Disney – political donations to all Florida politicians including those who supported the bill.

“We are hard at work creating a new framework for our political giving that will ensure our advocacy better reflects our values,” stated Chapek. “And today, we are pausing all political donations in the state of Florida pending this review. But, I know there is so much more work to be done. I am committed to this work and to you all, and will continue to engage with the LGBTQ+ community so that I can become a better ally.”

Now that Disney has taken the step to pause donations to every Florida politician, including those who wrote and voted for the Parental Rights in Education bill, the question is will other Florida-based companies and companies doing business in Florida like Publix, Universal (Comcast), Apple, and others follow their lead?
