Disney Imagineering shares updates on TRON/Lightcycle Run construction

Construction continues on the TRON Lightcycle Run at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. When Disney announced the addition of the Tron coaster for Walt Disney World, it was scheduled to open in time for the park’s 50th Anniversary celebrations this past October. However, the coronavirus pandemic threw those plans – and many others – into disarray. As projects were pushed back or postponed, Disney announced construction on the coaster would continue, however it would miss its original opening date.

Disney has yet to state when the TRON Lightcycle/Run will open to guests, but unconfirmed reports state that there is still quite a bit of work to be done on the interior of the attraction.

Today, on the Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram page, Assistant Construction Manager, Angela Wu, provided a close-up look at construction progress on TRON / Lightcycle Run.

“Currently we are working on the installation of our canopy ETFE,” said Wu. “It’s a plastic polymer that gets blown up with air. One of the really cool things about it is that we have a unique graphic pattern that you will be able to see when you experience the attraction at night.”
