Disneyland announces name of upcoming annual passholder program, details to come

In an email to Disneyland Resort Legacy Passholders (former passholders), Disney announced that details on the long-awaited rollout of the new passholder program will be announced on Tuesday, 3 August.

Disneyland, which reopened this past April, remained closed to guests for over a year. In January, Disneyland President Ken Potrock announced that Disney was “sunsetting” the Annual Passholder program and canceled all current annual passes. Potrock said the decision was made “due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and the limitations around the reopening of our California theme parks.”

It was rumored that Disney had wanted to overhaul the program for some time now and the pandemic was the perfect opportunity to start that process.

The new program, “Magic Key,” is expected to resemble the annual passholder program that Disneyland Paris currently employs.

Disneyland Paris has always had a tiered program, but it was adjusted while the Paris park was also closed during the global pandemic.

The new Disneyland Paris annual passes, which are broken up into four categories – Discovery, Magic Flex, Magic Plus, and Infinity, are based on available dates versus blackout dates. The Discovery level provides access to both parks for 150 days of the calendar year, while the Infinity gives guests year-round access. Only the Infinity pass offers full entitlements while the other three do not.
