France Mandates Covid Health Pass to Access Public Places and Events, Disneyland Paris Included

In an effort to restrain the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant and pressure more French citizens to get vaccinated, today French President Emmanuel Macron announced anyone who wishes to enter public spaces and events must obtain French health or sanitary pass.

Anyone entering a hospital, restaurant, bar, café, a shopping center, or traveling on an airplane or train will have to show a special pass proving they have been vaccinated, tested negative recently or are recovering from the virus.

According to The Guardian, “The same Covid health pass – which shows that a person has been vaccinated or had a recent negative Covid test – will be similarly required for anyone over the age of 12 to enter a cinema, theatre, museum, theme park or a cultural centre from as early as 21 July, the president said.”

The Health Pass will also be required for any guests wishing to visit the Disneyland Paris theme park.

Today, Disneyland Paris issued a statement that confirmed they will require the Health Pass and will comply with all current French regulations.

“The French President Macron recently addressed the nation to unveil new measures meant to mitigate the spread of Covid across the country. Among these measures, he confirmed that a sanitary pass will be required as of July 21st for all leisure and cultural locations gathering more than 50 people,” read a statement on the Disneyland Paris website. “We remain open and our flexible commercial conditions continue to apply. We will adjust our operations to comply with the new measures and provide more updates as soon as possible. Due to a very high volume of calls, you may experience longer delays than usual when trying to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to welcoming you soon at Disneyland Paris.”

“You’ve understood – vaccination is not immediately obligatory for everyone, but we’re going to extend the health pass to the maximum, in order to push a maximum of you to go and get vaccinated,” the president told the nation.

Although some scoffed at the new regulations, Health Minister Olivier Veran defended the new rule, saying, “The question is: It’s lockdown or the health pass.”

“If you live in England, France will accept the NHS COVID Pass or your NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status,” read a statment from the U.K. government.
