Opinion: Walt Disney Company 100 years: How Should Disney Celebrate?

In 2023 The Walt Disney Company will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. At this time Disney has released very few details on how the company plans to celebrate this milestone anniversary.

This past March, Disney announced there will be a major exhibition celebrating “the wonder of Disney, from 1923 to the present, and into the future.” The as-yet-untitled “Disney Centennial” exhibition will launch in February 2023 at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Additionally, Disney has said that at next year’s D23 Expo – 9-11 September 2022 – in Anaheim, California, fans will get a first look at some of the plans the company has in store for their centennial.

So, how will the company celebrate? Should they focus on one area or include every division at Disney?

Disney Matters vlogger, OrangeGrove55 says, contrary to what Disney Park fans would want, the celebration should focus on the studios.

“This is the 100th anniversary of … really The Walt Disney Studios,” said OrangeGrove55. “The parks have played a part – a big part – of Disney history, but the parks are not 100 years old. The parks are about 65 or so years old … it’s really the studio that’s hitting 100 years old.”

However, he says the parks should not be excluded since they “play a big part” of that celebration. The bulk of the celebration should be studio-focused and use Disney’s other divisions such as the parks to celebrate that with imagery, music, merchandise, parades, nighttime spectaculars, food, etc.

The opinions expressed are those of the vlogger and do not represent those of Disney Matters. OrangeGrove55 can be found on Twitter and YouTube.
