BoardWalk Ice Cream opens in former Ample Hills Creamery location

BoardWalk Ice Cream opens in former Ample Hills Creamery location

Right at the time the coronavirus pandemic began shuttering states across the country, Ample Hills Creamery, the Brooklyn-based ice cream maker filed for Chapter 11. Unrelated to the pandemic, the company, which was known for its unusually unique flavors filed for Chapter 11 back in March 2020 citing cost overruns at their Brooklyn factory in Red Hook.

At the time, the company said they were not planning on closing any of their 16 locations, including the one at Disney’s BoardWalk. However, after the premium ice cream chain sold their business, last June, to manufacturing company Schmitt Industries, the new company announced the Disney BoardWalk location would not reopen and the Disney Springs location had been abandoned.

“Our agreement with Ample Hills Creamery ended earlier this year. As a result, Ample Hills will close at Disney’s BoardWalk and the proposed Ample Hills location at Disney Springs will not open later this year,” read a statement from the company. Up until recently, the Ample Hills page at Disney’s BoardWalk read “Temporarily Unavailable” and “Coming Soon” on the Disney Springs page. They have now been removed from the Walt Disney World website.

The former Ample Hills location at the BoardWalk has remained vacant until today.

Just in time for the start of summer, guests who do not want to make the trek over to Beaches & Cream now can get their sweet treat fix at BoardWalk Ice Cream. The ice cream shop is to-go only.

Other than covering up the former Ample Hills artwork, the new shop looks exactly the same as before. The shop features specialty ice cream sundaes in a cup. Prices range from $5.49 for The Classic Wave (two scoops of ice cream) to $7.49 for either the Shoreside Sundae or the Thundering Surf Peanut Butter and Chocolate Sundae.
