Disney confirms new permits filed for work at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are for refurb on DVC rooms & bungalows

Last year as the Walt Disney World Resort began its phased reopening, only a select number of hotels reopened with the resort. Others hotels would gradually reopen as demand necessitate it. Initially, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, a Disney Vacation Club property, reopened on 22 June 2020. The resort of the resort was scheduled to reopen in August 2020. It was then pushed back until October. In late August, Disney announced the resort would now reopen in the summer of 2021; after an extensive refurbishment.

Now, Blogmickey.com is reporting that permits have been filed on behalf of Balfour Beatty Construction call for work on the bungalows and the Disney Vacation Club longhouses – Pago Pago, Moorea, and Takelau. At least 25 permits were filed between 26 April 2021 and 30 April 2021.

Last December, DVC News reported that DVC executives announced many of the villa interiors would undergo a refresh over the next two years.

“Three DVC resorts will receive a smaller scaled ‘refresh’ in 2021. Among them are Aulani, Disney Vacation Club VillasVillas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Also referred to as a ‘soft goods’ refurbishment, the process typically includes updates to wall coverings, floor coverings, linens, and some decor.”

DVC News stated that the Polynesian’s DVC room refresh was moved up a year from 2022, “perhaps due to other work currently occurring throughout the resort.” At the time of the announcement, no concept art was shared for any of the resorts.

Balfour Beatty Construction is “a contractor that typically takes on some of the larger-scale construction projects around Walt Disney World.”

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the Walt Disney World Resort said, “Yes, the permits referenced are for the upcoming refurbishment of the Villas & Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.”
