Disneyland Hotel Vacation Club Tower land prepped for construction

Disneyland Hotel Vacation Club Tower land prepped for construction

Last May, Disney unveiled new renderings and blueprints for the new DVC time-share tower at the Disneyland Hotel. The new details were unveiled during a town hall webinar for Anaheim residents in the Walnut Street neighborhood next to the resort. The plans for the Disneyland DVC project are still under review by the city of Anaheim and there has been no announcement when construction will commence.

Now it appears that Disney is moving forward with the project. Recently it appears they have been clearing the land where the DVC resort is expected to be built. Twitter user Danny, @just_ask_danny, posted photos of the removal of trees on the property.

“Land clearing is finally underway at the Disneyland Hotel in preparation for the addition of the new DVC tower,” read the tweet. In fact, so many trees have been removed “you can now clearly see all 3 current towers of the Disneyland Hotel from the street, due to clearing. (something previously not possible).”

Last July, on the 65th Anniversary of the Disneyland Resort, the City of Anaheim released new details and specifics regarding the proposed Disneyland Hotel – Disney Vacation Club Tower. On 20 July 2020, the City of Anaheim Planning Commission approved the conditional use permit, final site plan, and tentative parcel map for the project. The report stated, “Staff recommends that the Planning Commission approve the attached resolutions …” The commission voted 7-0 in favor of the proposal.

The 1,605 page document includes extensive details about the proposed tower including site plans, room types, suggested decor materials, and amenities. The report states that the Vacation Ownership Resort (VOR), currently known as Project Pascal, will be a 350-unit tower situated on 1.77 acres of the Disneyland Hotel Resort. Previously the land was home to the “Fantasy Waters” show. Prior to that, from 1970 to 1991 it was known as the “Dancing Waters” show.

“This means the final remnants of the original Fantasy Waters show (i.e. the stage, background wall, berm, and original trees) have been permanently removed. Final RIP to Fantasy Waters,” tweeted Danny. The show ran from 1991 to 2004.

Danny also posted images from Google street view of what the area looked like a week prior. It is clear from the images that most of the area was obscured by mature trees.

As of last July, Disney was projecting the yet unnamed DVC property project to have opened in 2023 however, given the events of the last year and the unpredictability of the coronavirus, it is all but certain that date will be pushed back.
