Today is the 29th anniversary of the opening of Disneyland Paris. When the park originally opened in 1992 it was known as Euro Disney Resort. Today the park is popular with visitors, but it was not always that way.

In the early years, the park struggled with attendance, employment and financial issues. In 1994, Disney even threatened to close the park and leave the land to the banks. In October of that year the park’s name was changed to Disneyland Paris and in May 1995, Space Mountain (originally Discovery Mountain) opened to critical acclaim.

The park began to grow in popularity and in June 2017, The Walt Disney Company acquired the resort’s operating company, Euro Disney S.C.A., and full control over the park. In February 2018, then CEO Bob Iger announced 2 billion Euros into the park.

The park is currently undergoing extensive refurbishments and additions in advance of its 30th anniversary celebration next year. As they cannot celebrate the 29th anniversary this year because the park is currently shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic , Disneyland Paris released a video giving a tour of the park and discussing its history and what its future holds.

The video is hosted by Disneyland Paris Ambassador Giona Prevete. Giona first talks to Yves Benyeta and Catherine Chevreux, both of whom have been with the park before its opening. Giona, Yves, and Catherine walk though the park discussing what it was like prior to open as well as areas that have changed over the years.

Giona then visits the Walt Disney Studios Park where the Avengers Campus is currently being built. Disney fans are then taken on an update to the reimagining of Disney’s Hotel New York: The Art of Marvel. Disney gives a sneak peek of the costumes the Cast Members will be wearing, as well as a newly designed Cast Member name tag exclusively for those hotel team members.

In talking about the future Avengers Campus, Imagineer Beth Clapperton said in addition to the attractions, landscaping and atmosphere, music will play a very important role in creating an immersive environment. In London, a 100-piece orchestra recorded all the music for the new land.

Disney is also building an Avengers Campus at Hong Kong Disneyland and Disney California Adventure (which will open on 14 June 2021). Clapperton said that all three lands are interconnected via Tony Stark.

Viewers also got a peek at what the new sign will look like for Cars Road Trip. Cars Road Trip is located in the former space occupied by the Studio Tram Tour.

Disney did keep some elements from the studio tour including Catastrophe Canyon but it has been re-themed to fit the Cars universe with a new character and a new message.

There is no date as to when Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris will open.
