Disney Genie still coming to Walt Disney World

Disney Genie still coming to Walt Disney World

Among all the new attractions, refurbishments, and experiences revealed at the 2019 D23 Expo, Disney CEO Bob Chapek (then Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman) announced a new digital offering that will enhance the way guests plan for and experience a trip to Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Genie.

Last week, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro stated the Disney Genie app, which was to debut in late 2020, is still coming but no date was announced. The app is a trip-planning tool to help guests make the most of their visit to the Walt Disney World resort.

Disney stated that the Disney Genie “will make planning easier and more fun by providing guests customized itineraries geared to princesses, thrill seekers, foodies, families, and more.”

Disney Genie will provide customized itineraries geared to a guest’s interests, including anything from a royal, princess-themed day at Magic Kingdom Park to a trip around the world at Epcot for foodies to an exciting day for thrill-seekers.

Disney says guests can tell the app what they would like to do and Disney Genie will evaluate every option and present an itinerary that will tell guests what time and in what order they should plan their day. Disney says that if a guest changes their mind and adds or deletes suggestions the Disney Genie will re-optimize the guest’s day.

Disney Genie can also send guests real-time tips and updates, including recommendations for experiences based on preferences, and help guests navigate the theme parks with added convenience and comfort. The app is also capable of handling multiple reservations.

The Disney Genie is just another piece of the technology puzzle for Disney. Disney says that the Disney Parks are becoming “more seamless and enjoyable through other digital offerings.”

This past January Disney discontinued offering complimentary MagicBands to guests and recently introduced MagicMobile to guests visiting Walt Disney World.

I’m sure you’ve heard this word before: ‘metaverse,” stated D’Amaro in a recent CNN Business interview. “An opportunity to essentially bring these assets into a digital framework. It provides us with unending opportunities at these theme parks. It can bring Main Street alive in ways that you’ve never seen it before, never thought about it before. You can have the whole theme park participate in a game that culminates in a celebration at the hub at the top of Main Street. The possibilities are endless and I think that’s where we’re incredibly unique at the Disney company. This combination of a very forward-looking digital footprint with our legacy assets that we have in place, and making them incredibly relevant today.”
