What is and what will not be available when the Disneyland Resort reopens

The Disneyland Resort is set to reopen on Friday, April 30th to an eager group of Californians. Disneyland recently released information, Know Before You Go, on what guests can expect when they wish to visit Disneyland or Disney Calfornia Adventure (limited capacity and park reservations) and the process of purchasing tickets.

“When we reopen our two theme parks, we will have enhanced health and safety measures, and will limit capacity through a new theme park reservation system that requires all guests to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance,” stated Michael Ramirez, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort. “Theme park reservations will be available online, in advance only, for a specific date, subject to availability.”

Although not all attractions and offerings will be available when the parks reopen, Disney stated that guests will “once again experience favorite attractions at both parks, from thrilling adventures like the new Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and the Incredicoaster to family-friendly experiences like Peter Pan’s Flight and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. New magic will be unveiled, too, as the reimagined Snow White’s Enchanted Wish opens to guests for the very first time.”

Following the lead of other Disney Parks worldwide, Disneyland will not offer their traditional parades, nighttime fireworks, or nighttime shows like “Fantasmic” at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure’s “World of Color.” Disney has also stated that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and single rider queues will also be unavailable.

Character meet-and-greets will be temporarily unavailable, however Disney has stated that they “will be in our parks, in new ways, to entertain and delight Guests.” In other Disney Parks these characters and performers have been located in socially distance locations like riding down Main Street U.S.A. or on the second level of the train station and even on a float in a pop-up mini parade.

California’s revised health and safety guidelines also restrict theme parks to limit indoor attractions to no more than 15 minutes in length (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is 18 minutes) and attraction queues must be located outside.

Guests must also be socially distanced on an attraction or separated by a barrier. Many attractions can be modified to accommodate this and keep guests safe, however some cannot. At this time, Disney has decided the following attractions will not reopen later this month:

  • Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
  • Grizzly River Run
  • Golden Zephyr

In addition, the Jungle Cruise, which is currently undergoing an update of select scenes throughout the attraction, will remain closed to guests until it is completed.

Disney states that of the attractions listed to open with the parks that some may be “modified, limited in capacity and subject to availability or closure.”
