Shanghai Disneyland, which had its grand opening on 16 June 2016, is celebrating their 5th anniversary this year, with a “Year of Magical Surprises.”

Starting on April 8, the park will be celebrating with “an exciting lineup of exclusive experiences and sensational surprises across Shanghai Disneyland, the resort’s two themed hotels, Disneytown and beyond.”

Guests will be treated to new experiences including “ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration,” a new nighttime spectacular, anniversary-themed overlays, Mickey’s Storybook Express pre-parade, among other surprises.

Mickey and his friends, as well as Duffy and his friends, will dress up in special 5th birthday celebration outfits. A big birthday cake made specially for the 5th birthday celebration will lead Mickey’s Storybook Express.

Up to four times per day, Mickey and Minnie, in their special birthday attire, will present the new Disney “Surprise!” Show on the Pepsi • E-stage in Tomorrowland. Along with unique Disney entertainment, selected guests will have an opportunity to spin the Disney Surprise Wheel to win bigger surprises.

Each themed land will be illuminated for the celebration, fifth anniversary decorations will line the streets of Mickey Avenue, and new soundtracks will play throughout the park. In addition, a collection of limited-edition souvenirs will be available to commemorate the milestone and new set menus, beverages in collectable surprise sipper, and speciality themed popcorn buckets will be available. Even the resort’s two hotels and Disneytown, will be made over for the celebration.

Guests can also expect to see their favorite Disney characters and some rarely seen friends. According to the Disney Parks Blog, “An all-new Surprise Squad formed by cast members will also appear throughout the day, greeting guests and unveiling exciting additional wonders, including fun souvenirs and opportunities to be invited to the Disney “Surprise!” Show for a chance to win an exclusive VIP treatment and other prizes.”
