Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover refurbishment extended … again

It’s a tale as old as time. Prior to the closing of the Walt Disney World Resort’s closing last March due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (TTA) was closed to guests. At the time, it was unclear what caused the shutdown. It was eventually reported that the Tomorrowland attraction was receiving a full replacement of all of the magnetic linear induction motors [629 in total] along the 5, 400′ track, as well as structural work and possible roofing work were also being done.

The Magic Kingdom attraction had multiple reopening dates beginning on October 2020. It seems work was wrapped up as there were multiple reports of Disney testing out the attraction. As recently as last week it was reported that Cast Members were riding the PeopleMover. Everything looked as if the TTA was on track to reopen sometime during the first week in March, however that is not the case.

Now, according to the Walt Disney World website, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover will now remain closed to guests until 3 April 2021.

On January of last year, smoke was pouring down the TTA speedramp – the moving ramp that transports guests to and from the PeopleMover and the following month one train hit another train causing the temporary shutdown of the attraction. Then in March 2020, the attraction went down unexpectedly and without explanation and has remained closed ever since.
