Walt Disney World announces additional layoffs to come

In court documents filed today with the State of Florida, Disney announced there will be an additional 19 layoffs this March. It is unclear if these additional layoffs were part of the 28,000 Cast Members originally announced last fall, the 4,000 additional employees announced from last November, or a new round.

According to WDWNT.com, “Three of the Cast Members are from Celebration offices, one is from the Maingate Complex, and the other fifteen are from other Walt Disney World departments.” The layoffs will be effective on March 20.

When the additional 4,000 layoffs were announced, Disney stated, “As part of these actions, the employment of approximately 32,000 employees primarily at Parks, Experiences and Products will terminate in the first half of fiscal 2021.” This would fit within the timeframe that these 19 newly announced layoffs would occur.
