Keister Coaster at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort gets a “brand new look”

This past October it was reported that the Keister Coaster waterslide which featured a fun or scary clown slide (depending on your attitude towards clowns) at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort would be closed for refurbishment. It was unclear what was going to happen to the giant clown face that has been there since the resort opened.

Twitter user @TheMouseandMore posted photos of chopped up pieces of the clown being loaded into a truck which all but confirmed its demise. Blue tarps with clouds painted on them replaced the clown’s head. At the time it was unclear what would replace the clown face at the Luna Park Pool.

Disney stated, according to writer Brooke Geiger McDonald, when the pool opens the slide will be themed to Mickey Mouse and pals.

“We look forward to Mickey and his pals clowning around at Luna Park Pool. Guests will enjoy the same great ride down Keister Coaster slide with a brand-new look,” reads the statement from Disney.

Originally the pool and new slide were expected to open in November, however a statement on the BoardWalk Inn Resort webpage states that “the waterslide [will] be available again before the end of 2020 …” Disney notes that those dates are subject to change. Although work will continue in the pool area though the end of year, Disney states the “Luna Park Pool, as well as 2 leisure pools … will remain open during this refurbishment.”

Robert A.M. Sterns Architects took inspiration for the theming of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort from seaside resorts of Atlantic City and Ocean City, New Jersey. Theming for the Luna Park Pool (and the name for the pool area) and the BoardWalk entertainment district was inspired by the seaside of Coney Island, New York.
