Disneyland Paris expected to remain closed until February 2021, Macron rules out opening theme parks over Christmas holidays

As cases of the coronavirus soared in a second wave, despite some health experts said the first wave never went away, on October 30, French President Emmanuel Macron shut down most of France in order to contain this new outbreak.

President Macron said people would only be allowed to leave their homes for essential work, medical reasons, or to use their daily one-hour allocation of exercise. According to BBC News, “Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants and bars, will close, but schools and factories will remain open.” Included in the non-essential category was Disneyland Paris.

The park announced they were shutting down on October 29, but – optimistically – stated they would be taking reservations for stays beginning 19 December 2020 through 3 January 2021 “in anticipation of celebrating the holiday season.” After that, Disney said they park would close from January 4 until February 12 presumably for planned refurbishments.

However, according to Twitter user DLP Report (@DLPReport), “French President Emmanuel Macron has ruled out opening theme parks over the Christmas holidays.” Although there has been no official announcement from Disneyland Paris officials, pending any further decisions from the French Government, the Disneyland Paris resort would not open until 13 February 2021, at the earliest.
