California Governor says Disneyland Reopening “Very Very Shortly,” Disneyland President: “We’re Disappointed”

Today Brady MacDonald, reporter for The Orange County Register, reported that California Governor Gavin Newsom said in an announcement today that guidelines on theme parks will be coming “very, very shortly.”

“We will be making announcements soon as it relates to theme parks and amusement parks,” stated Newsom. “Making announcements soon as it relates to some areas, industries as well as sectors and putting out additional guidelines in those spaces very very shortly.”

Newsom continued by saying, “I’m not here to today to make that presentation … we are actively working in a number of sectors and we’ll be making public … those efforts [known] very very shortly.”

Although closed for the last six months, California’s theme parks – including the Disneyland Resort – have had guidelines in place since early spring of this year.

On the heels of Newsom’s press conference today, Disneyland Resort president Ken Potrock said in a statement, “We are disappointed with the state’s lack of progress in providing the industry with guidance and clarity on reopening.” Potrock continued by saying that Disney has proven that they “can operate responsibly, with strict health and safety protocols at our properties around the world and at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.” However, a recent article in The Daily Beast about Disney allegedly underreporting cases at the Downtown Disney district says otherwise.

Recently Disneyland joined other California theme park operators and the California Attractions and Parks Association on calling on the State of California to immediately issue their guidelines and allow those theme parks to reopen.
