Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Reopen 19 July, Monorail Service Remains Unavailable

As the Walt Disney World Resort continues to approach pre-pandemic levels, the resort hotels are gradually reopening to guests.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was originally to reopen last year, however Disney abruptly announced that the resort would remain closed as it undergoes an extensive refurbishment.

In August 2020, Disney stated that the updated guest rooms would take their inspiration from the hit Walt Disney Animation film, “Moana.” In addition to the Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette and the subtle and not-so-subtle characters from “Moana” throughout the room, Disney has also installed new furnishings and fixtures. “In the bathrooms, for instance, Disney Imagineers took inspiration from the sandy ocean floor for the tiles and carved details in the vanity. The colorful patterns found throughout the room bring a whole new energy to the space, evoking undulating ocean waves and tropical flowers,” read a Disney Parks Blog post.

Today, Disney announced that they will be “accepting bookings for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort beginning July 19.” They went on to say that as part of the reopening, guests will return to “an enhanced entrance with a new porte cochere showcasing the iconic mid-20th century architecture the Polynesian is famous for.”

As the resort reopens, the temporary front desk area at Pago Pago will close, and front desk and concierge services will move back to the Great Ceremonial House. Disney’s Magical Express and valet will be available under the new porte cochere.

While most of the resort areas and amenities will be available, the renovation of the monorail station continues and monorail service to and from the resort remains temporarily unavailable. The front entrance to the Great Ceremonial House will also open at a later date, and Cast Members will be available to assist Guests in accessing the side entrance to the Great Ceremonial House in the meantime.

Guests should continue to use Online Check-in and Direct-to-Room service to help simplify their arrival experience.
